Napoleon Bonaparte was a French military and political leader who rose to prominence during the French Revolution and its associated wars. He became Emperor of the French in 1804 and ruled until 1814, when he was forced to abdicate and was exiled to the island of Elba. He briefly returned to power in 1815 during the Hundred Days before being defeated at the Battle of Waterloo and exiled to the remote island of Saint Helena, where he died in 1821.
Napoleon is considered one of the greatest military commanders in history, known for his strategic brilliance and innovative tactics. He expanded the French Empire across much of Europe through a series of military conquests, but his aggressive foreign policies ultimately led to his downfall. Despite his controversial legacy, Napoleon is also credited with implementing a number of important legal and administrative reforms in France, many of which continue to influence modern European governance systems.
